Annual Brake Safety Week Is Here. What You Need To Know.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual Brake Safety Week is scheduled for Sept. 6-12. The annual outreach and enforcement campaign was created in partnership with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and involves law enforcement agencies across North America. Inspectors will conduct roadside inspections of commercial trucks and buses to look for missing, loose or worn parts, air or hydraulic fluid leaks, and other issues with brake systems. Vehicles will be placed out of service if they have defective or out-of-adjustment brakes.

MAP-21 Means Safer Logistics for All

The Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act, or “MAP-21” Act that was signed into law and went into effect October 1, 2012. Besides consolidating the more than 100 transportation programs into a much more manageable (and hopefully better managed) number, the immense bill has several lofty goals. Two of MAP-21’s central themes are the “strengthening of America’s highway and public transportation system” and the support of “the Department’s aggressive safety agenda,” according to the FHWA’s map act website.
